Tokyo Looks to Extend Limits on Large Events Until April 12 Due To Coronavirus

The Tokyo Government announced on Monday its intent to proceed with plans to extend its postponement or cancellation of large-scale events to encompass all events taking place until April 12 due to the COVID-19 coronavirus illness. The government explained that the next three weeks are critical in preventing “clusters” of infected people from gathering together and causing an “overshoot,” an explosive amount of new infections.

Currently, many anime and Japanese pop culture events and attractions have been closed and/or cancelled as a result of the measures due to the high human traffic they attract, including the Ghibli Museum, AnimeJapan 2020 and so on. As much as we would love to see them open again, we cannot risk the well-being of ourselves and others around us and can only hope the pandemic ends soon.

As always, we will provide the latest updates on these events and attractions so be sure to check back here.
