Original English Pokémon Theme Singer Releases Unofficial Detective Pikachu Theme Song

Jason Paige, the singer of the original English Pokémon theme song (yes,  the one that goes “I wanna be the very best”) for the English-dubbed version of the television anime, released his own unofficial theme song for Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros.’ live-action Pokémon: Detective Pikachu film on his YouTube channel on April 18. Paige’s song is titled “It’ll Always Be Me & You.”

“This unofficial Detective Pikachu theme echoes the inspirational lyrical and musical energy of the OG Theme,” Paige wrote in the video’s description. The video amusingly opens with the singer having an extended one-way conversation with an inanimate Pikachu doll before launching into an energetic rock song played on a Pokémon-themed electric guitar.

The original “Pokémon Theme” was written by John Loeffler and John Siegler, and debuted in 1998.

Detective Pikachu opened in Japan on May 3 and will debut in the United States on May 10. The film is based on the Detective Pikachu Nintendo 3DS game, which debuted in Japan in 2016. An extended version shipped in the West in March 2018.
