Warner Bros.’ Pokémon Detective Pikachu film and the Godzilla: King of Monsters film were both nominated for two 2019 E! People’s Choice Awards each, but did not win at the awards ceremony on Sunday evening.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters was nominated for “Action Movie of 2019” but lost to Avengers: Endgame. Pokémon Detective Pikachu was nominated for “Family Movie of 2019” but lost to Aladdin.
Millie Bobby Brown from Godzilla: King of the Monsters was also nominated for “Female Movie Star of 2019” but lost to Zendaya from Spider-Man: Far From Home. Additionally, Ryan Reynolds from Pokémon Detective Pikachu was nominated for “Animated Movie Star of 2019” but lost to Beyoncé for The Lion King.
Both films are also nominated for The Hollywood Professional Association’s HPA Awards. Pokémon Detective Pikachu is nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects and Godzilla: King of Monsters is nominated for Outstanding Sound. Those awards will be announced on November 21.
Rob Letterman’s Pokémon Detective Pikachu opened in Japan on May 3 at #3, and in the United States on May 10. Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla sequel film Godzilla: King of the Monsters opened in the United States and Japan on May 31. The film opened at #1 at the box office in Japan.
