In an exclusive interview with Famitsu.com on Friday, game director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that the Final Fantasy VII remake will be the next PR priority for Square Enix after the release of the heavily publicized Kingdom Hearts III in January next year.
Nomura wanted to clear up some misinformation that was circulating online following comments he gave at an event at the Artnia Café in Tokyo earlier this month. Those comments garnered speculation that development on the Final Fantasy VII remake had not started yet or was not advancing, a fear that could have stemmed from past instances such as the more recent cancellation of Final Fantasy XV‘s planned DLC, asor that of its predecessor, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Nomura clarified that, just as he said before at E3, development on the remake is progressing rather smoothly:
“Yes. That is not official. As I said during E3, development is going favorably. I just wanted to say that the current PR priority is Kingdom Hearts III, as it was during the ARTNIA event the other day…”
Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy VII remake in 2015’s E3 Sony Press Conference. Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda revealed in 2017 that the game is slated for release in about the next three years, in episodic parts.
As it is known, Tetsuya Nomura is returning to the Final Fantasy VII PlayStation 4 remake as its director after serving as the character designer for the original game, and Kazushige Nojima is also returning to write the scenario.
