Ritsumeikan Uji High School Concert Band Plays Sound! Euphonium OP at Koshien Baseball Match

Ritsumeikan Uji High School’s concert band played Sound! Euphonium’s first season OP “Dream Solister” at a Summer Koshien baseball match held on Tuesday. The song was performed as a show of support for the anime’s production studio Kyoto Animation following the tragic arson attack on July 18. A video showing the song being played was posted on Reddit.

The National High School Baseball Championship, commonly known as Summer Koshien, is a yearly baseball tournament featuring high school teams from across Japan. 62 members of Ritsumeikan Uji’s concert band participated in the performance, but unfortunately, the school’s baseball team lost against SeiryĆ« High School and was unable to progress in the tournament.

The first Sound! Euphonium television anime series based on the novel series by Ayano Takeda premiered in April 2015. The series has inspired a TV anime sequel and a number of films. Kyoto Animation announced in June that the anime will get a continuation focusing on protagonist Kumiko’s third year in high school.

Earlier this month, Kyoto Prefectural Police released the names of 10 of the 35 victims who died in the fire at Kyoto Animation’s 1st studio building on July 18.
